Heat Pump Installationin Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
Cold-climate heat pumps for Soo winters, ducted or ductless, from a TSSA-registered HVAC contractor.
About Heat Pumps
A cold-climate heat pump heats your house in winter and cools it in summer, with one system. It moves heat instead of burning fuel, pulling warmth out of the outdoor air even when that air is cold.
Whether it keeps up in February comes down to the details: the size of the unit, how it's installed, and whether your electrical panel can carry it. We size for the worst January we can remember, not a marketing brochure.

Which Heat Pump Fits Your House?
Two ways to install one, and the work that makes either one last.
Ducted heat pump
Connects to the ductwork you already have, so one outdoor unit heats and cools the house through your existing vents. A fit for homes with forced-air heating.
Ductless mini-split
An outdoor unit feeds one or more wall-mounted indoor heads, with no ducts at all. A fit for homes on baseboard heat, additions, and rooms the furnace never reaches.
Sized to your house
A load calculation based on your actual house, not a guess from the square footage. An undersized unit struggles in a cold snap; an oversized one runs short cycles all year.
Panel and wiring
A heat pump needs its own circuit, and an older panel may need an upgrade to carry it. We check that before the install, not on install day.
Backup heat
Most homes keep a backup heat source for the few deep-freeze weeks each year. We'll tell you whether yours should, and what makes sense.
How a Heat Pump Install Works
From the first visit to the first cold night.
- An in-home heat pump assessment.
- Proper load calculation: a Manual J heat-loss calc on your actual house, not a square-footage rule of thumb.
- Panel and wiring handled in-house: a new dedicated circuit, a disconnect, or a full panel swap. We don't sub that out.
- Permit pulled, inspection booked: TSSA and ESA, done properly, documented and on file.

Questions About Heat Pumps
Do heat pumps actually work in Sault Ste. Marie?
Yes, when it's a cold-climate model sized to your house. Cold-climate heat pumps are built for winters like ours. Most homes still keep a backup heat source for the few deep-freeze weeks each year.
Should I get a ducted or a ductless heat pump?
If your house has ductwork, a ducted heat pump can use it. If it doesn't, or the ducts don't reach a room, a ductless mini-split works without them. We recommend one after the in-home visit.
Will I need an electrical panel upgrade?
It depends on your panel. A heat pump needs its own circuit, and some older panels don't have the room or capacity for it. We check your panel before the install.
Are you registered for HVAC work?
Yes. Tombari HVAC is a TSSA-registered HVAC contractor.
